Legends tell that the king of Khajuraho was Chandravarman who was a son of Hemvati, the daughter of Hemraj, the Royal priest of Kashi, and Moon God. This group boasts of having temples like Kandariya Mahadeo, the largest of all dedicated to Lord Shiva. Chaunsat Yogini Temple, dedicated to Goddess Kali. Lakshamana Temple, dedicated to Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. The other temples in this group are Chitragupta Temple, Matangeswara Temple, Vishwanath Temple and Varaha Temple. The curving architecture and sculptures of these temples are as usual spell bound.
Eastern Group - There are two group of temples in Eastern Group. One group dedicated to Jain pantheon and other group of temples dedicated to Hindu Gods and Goddesses. The temples here include - Parsavanath Temple, Adinath Temple, Ghantai Temple, The Brahma Temple, The Vamana Temple, Hanuman Temple. The Eastern Group of temples lie very close to the Khajuraho village.
Southern Group - This group consists of two most important temples like the Dulah Dao Temple, and also the Chaturbhuja Temple. These are one of the oldest and dedicated to Lord Shiva and lord Vishnu respectively. The southern groups of temples lies 5 km from the Khajuraho village.
