Jaisalmer Fort - The exotic place Jaisalmer attracts tourists with a its majestic forts. The 'Sonar Quila' or golden fort is the second oldest fort in Rajasthan after Chittorgarh. The majestic structure of the fort merges with the golden hues of the desert climate and the setting suns in its colourful hues give the fort a fairy tale look. It is the most living fort in India, built by the Rajput ruler Jaisala. The fort contains one third of the total populattion of the country. It is fascinating to wander around this living fort, packed with houses, temples, handicraft shops and honey combed with narrow winding lanes, all of them paved in stone. The surprising thing is that vehicles are not allowed in the fort, even heavy things have to be carried up by camel cart. The walls of the fort provide excellent views over the old city and surrounding desert. The exquisite architecture of the fort lures each and every tourists. The fort is approached by Ganesh Pol, Suraj Pol, Bhoot Pol and Hawa Pol.
Jain temples - Within the fort walls are seven beautifully carved Jain temples. There are temples dedicated to Rishabhdevji, Sambhavanathji and the Ashthapadi. The sculpture of the temple is amazingly beautiful. There is a emerald icon of Mahavira which is considered as a unparallel gem.
Jaisalmer Havelis- Like the fort of Jaisalmer, the havelis of the place are must watch spots. The famous havelis of Jaisalmer are - Salim- Singh - Ki - Haveli, Patwon-Ki- Haveli and Natmal Ki Haveli. The two storeyed of Salim- Singh - Ki - Haveli's had to demolish but still the remaining structure has unsurpassed splendour. Near the city centre is the Patwon Ki Haveli, a legendary architectural wealth. This haveli is considered as the grandest mansion, a veritable museum piece in the open. Nathmal-ki-Haveli is famous for symphony of the different structure. The stone curving of the haveli is very intricate and stunning.
