Places to visit in Jodhpur

Dominated by the huge fort of Meherangarh, the city Jodhpur is situated on the foothill of the sandstone hillock. It is considered as the oasis in the vast desert. This fort is Rajsthan's finest - an awesome creation with delicate palace peering over the top of its dizzying walls. Beneath the fort sprawls Jodhpur- an extra ordinary city in blue. Jodhpur is at its bluest in the old city. Jodhpur is a very clumsy place cluttered with traffic. It is less developed than the other cities of Rajasthan. Surrounded by 10 km long, 16th century wall a tangle of winding, glittering streets, scented by incense, roses and sewers with shops selling everything from trumpets and temple decorations to snuff and saris. Though it is a bit hectic city but it never fails to fascinate the tourists. Tourists not only from India but also from abroad visit Jodhpur every year.

Mehrangarh Fort: - The main attraction that click out mind when we talk about Jodhpur is Mehrangarh Fort. It is a captiviting place to visit. As you approach the fort the height is apparent, as it situated on the height of 125m hill. It is a mesmerizing formidable feat of construction. It is one of the largest fort in India. Within the forts there are several palaces, museum, galleries and temples. The museum holds a excellent collections of Indian Royal tappings, showing the wealth and power of the Marwars. The places are splendid example of architecture and really great piece of a art. At the end of the fort is the Chamunda Devi Temple, dedicated to the goddess Durga. This is a lovely place to sit in the widow alcoves and overlook the city below.

Umaid Bhawan Palace:- This palace is another amazing attractions of Jodhpur. This huge palace contains 365 rooms. And one part of the palace the present Maharaja of Jodhpur is still living. Other part is turned in to a hotel and museum. It is one of the largest and grandest private residences in the world.

Jaswant Thada: On the left of the mighty fort lies the Jaswant Thada. It is a royal centaph of white marvels. It dislays rare portraits of former ruler. This is a architectural land mark found in Jodhpur.
Jodhpur also includes attractions like Girdikot and Sadar Market, Maha Mandir, museum and Mandore Park, Kilana lake.

Like all the other cities of Rajasthan Jodhpur also colours itself in the colourful fairs and festivals. Festivals like Marwar, Gangaur Teej , Nag Panchami, Holi etc are celebrated in the city with great enthusiasm.
