One of the most beautiful sections that should not be missed is the Kappakkadavu, which to the locals is where the Dutch eventually settled down, but for tourists presents a beautiful and pristine beach.
The main reason that the English, Portuguese, Dutch, Arabs, Phoenecians, Greeks and Romans to the island was mainly the healthy abundance of quality spices that was on offer.
Besides the beautiful scenery and environment the other principle reason for guests to visit this area is to learn the history of the travellers who once passed through here. Though there isn't much in the form of evidence there is a monument that still stands to mark the landing of the famous Portuguese explorer. The stone monument located on the beach features an inscription that reads "Vasco da Gama landed here, Kappakadavu, in the year 1498".
Other attractions that are housed here include the Temple on the Rock, which is believed to be over 800 years old. This temple is a testament to the religious nature of the Indian people and is an important part of the country's culture, making it become one of the attractions that guests to the area should not pass up.
There are also numerous chances to indulge in a boat ride that offers the chance to move amongst the waves and take in all the beautiful sights and sounds of the area. One of the most memorable experiences that should not be missed is the chance to see the waters reflecting the sunlight which gives it a red hue and colour, making for a pretty unusual sight.
Failing that, visitors can just simply relax at any spot on the beach be surrounded by the harmonious forces of nature as it calmly serenades them.
Being a Calicut hotel that is located close to this beach, guests who choose to stay at The Gateway Hotel Beach Road Calicut will enjoy convenient access to the beach as well as the city centre.
