Places to visit in Kappad Beach

Known as the Gateway to the Malabar coast Kappad, it is on this historic location that in May 1498 170 men lead by the Portuguese navigator Vasco De Gama sailed in and created a new chapter in the history of Kerala. This was the beginning of India's relationship with European powers that would last until 1947.


Despite its historical importance this is not the only attraction on offer for tourists. One of the other most notable features is that the beaches and the oceans here do not seem to be touched by time and present a unique and timeless spot in India. The stone monument located on the beach features an inscription that reads "Vasco da Gama landed here, Kappakadavu, in the year 1498".

Other attractions that are housed here include the Temple on the Rock, which is believed to be over 800 years old. This temple is a testament to the religious nature of the Indian people and is an important part of the country's culture, making it become one of the attractions that guests to the area should not pass up.

There are also numerous chances to indulge in a boat ride that offers the chance to move amongst the waves and take in all the beautiful sights and sounds of the area. One of the most memorable experiences that should not be missed is the chance to see the waters reflecting the sunlight which gives it a red hue and colour, making for a pretty unusual sight.
